Overview: Tra il 1903 e il 1908 Franz Xaver Kappus, un giovane allievo dell'accademia militare di Wiener Neustadt, inviò a Reiner Maria Rilke alcune sue prove poetiche. Il corpus di poesie era accompagnato da una lettera in cui il giovane aspirante poeta si apriva come non aveva mai fatto con nessuno. Ebbe così inizio quel carteggio che, staccato dall'epistolario di Rilke, fu pubblicato come opera a sè stante nel 1929. Dal poeta maturo scaturisce una sorta di lezione fatta di consigli stilistici e sopratutto di insegnamenti spirituali. Con toni accorati, Rilke espone i temi principali della sua poetica: esorta Kappus a indagare se veramente lo scrivere sia per lui una necesssità, gli indica il peso e la grandezza dell'essere artista, lo esorta alla solitudine come unico mezzo per giungere alla maturazione di sé. Pretty good overall. I liked the main character, though some of the side plots were just okay. I'd probably recommend it to a friend.

I have mixed feelings about this one. The pacing was a bit slow and I found myself skimming a few pages. It wasn't terrible, just okay. Might work better for someone else, just wasn't completely for me.

Glad someone recommended this to me. I loved how the story unfolded. It kept me guessing without being too confusing. Would probably read it again at some point.

Pretty good overall. Writing is good, just wish there was a bit more depth in certain parts. Still kept my attention though. Enjoyable weekend read.
