Overview: A reassessment of the early church using the archaeological evidenceRamsay MacMullen considers the unwritten evidence for Christianity in the centuries before and after Constantine’s conversion in order to gain a better understanding of the second church, the church of the majority of Christians, as well as that of the first church, that of the bishops who in part condemned, in part tolerated, and in part re-shaped the church of the many. MacMullen uses the excavation reports of hundreds of churches of the fourth century to reveal the religion that the majority of ordinary Christians practiced. He then uses the material remains to reassess the total number of Christians who lived during this period. Such a great read. The author did a great job wrapping everything up at the end. No weird plot holes left behind. Will be looking for more from this author.

Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. The writing style is very engaging. It’s easy to follow but still has a lot of depth. Glad I picked this up.

Such a great read. The pacing was spot on and the characters felt real. I didn't find myself getting bored at any point. Worth the time and money.

A very satisfying read. It has a good balance of dialogue and description. Everything felt like it moved at the right speed. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.
