Overview: Antologia del Premio Fra gli ultimi del mondo.8 Graphic Novel.Nella sesta poesia di Mediterraneo*, che si configura come un vero e proprio poemetto, Eugenio Montale scrive alcuni versi che sembrano profetici degli orrori che oggigiorno si consumano nel Mediterraneo. In quel Mediterraneo nei suoi versi di “un azzurro netto”, “scoccante luci” e che oggi purtroppo si sta trasformando in una tomba per i tanti infelici che cercano disperatamente di giungere sulle coste dell’Italia. Sappiamo bene che questi versi nella mente di Montale a ben altro alludevano che non all’epocale fenomeno dell’emigrazione a cui assistiamo oggi. Altrettanto bene sappiamo che Montale non ha mai praticato una dichiarata poesia sociale, preferendo occuparsi della condizione umana in sé, e non rischiare di scambiare – parole sue – l’essenziale col transitorio degli eventi storici. Eppure, pur ben sapendo tutto ciò, quei versi in qualche modo ci portano a confrontarci con il presente, a meditare su ciò che “sembrano” voler dire. Ed è su questo presente del Mediterraneo che abbiamo chiesto a giovani scrittori e disegnatori di realizzare un Graphic Novel; di raccontare in 8 tavole di quelle centinaia di minori stranieri non accompagnati obbligati a smarrire la memoria del sole, a lasciare le proprie terre, per cercare di raggiungere il ricco e spesso freddo (in ogni senso) Nord Europa. Really enjoyed this one. The pacing was spot on and the characters felt real. I didn't find myself getting bored at any point. Would probably read it again at some point.

I have mixed feelings about this one. The pacing was a bit slow and I found myself skimming a few pages. It wasn't terrible, just okay. A generous 3 stars.
