Overview: Žalost zemlje je kratka pripoved o tem, kako se je skozi mednarodno uspešno predstavo Wild West Show oblikoval junaški mit osvajanja Divjega zahoda. Buffala Billa, avtorja te velike predstave, ki jo je v 20 letih videlo 60 milijonov gledalcev, imamo dejansko lahko za izumitelja množičnega razvedrila ali spektakla, prvega »reality showa«. V Wild West Showu so namreč nastopali pravi Indijanci, ki jih je Buffalo Bill tako morda rešil pred genocidom, ki je medtem še potekal v ZDA.Ob njih pa tudi pravi kavboji, ki so se nekoč tudi res bojevali proti njim. Z nizom priredb in potvorb (neprijetnih) zgodovinskih dejstev se je dejanski genocid nad Indijanci na odru spremenil v dobičkonosen spektakel, ki je z močjo simulakra ustvarjal neko novo »resnico« ter predelano ali popolnoma izmišljeno podobo Indijanca. Ti stereotipi pa so se pozneje brez vsake kritične distance prenesli v vesterne. Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. The author did a great job wrapping everything up at the end. No weird plot holes left behind. Worth the time and money.
