Coens brute optreden uit 1621 was het sluitstuk van een reeks geweldsdaden waarbij de Bandanese bevolking werd verjaagd, vermoord en tot slaaf gemaakt.In Banda laat Marjolein van Pagee zien hoe dit alles zich verhoudt tot de VOC als bezettingsmacht en het koloniale onderdrukkingssysteem dat hieruit voortkwam. Van Pagee plaatst de genocide in de grotere context van de ‘vaderlandse geschiedenis’ en dus het ontstaan van Nederland als natiestaat.

Finished it in a couple of days. The author did a great job wrapping everything up at the end. No weird plot holes left behind. Glad I picked this up.
