Eine Bestandsaufnahme 1946–1976 Über 1650 Eintragungen, 241 Abb., LiteraturhinweiseDas sogenannte Leihbuch, das zwischen 1948 und ca. 1976 in Deutschland (bzw. in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland) speziell für gewerbliche Leihbüchereien hergestellt wurde, ist bislang nur in Teilbereichen ausreichend erforscht. In dieser Darstellung soll lediglich dem Leihbuch mit utopisch-phantastischem Inhalt mehr Aufmerksamkeit gewidmet werden, speziell auch deswegen, weil sich bei diesem Genre der Unterhaltungsliteratur eine besonders interessierte Sammlergemeinde gebildet hat.Den Schwerpunkt der utopisch-phantastischen Leihbücher bildet die Science-Fiction, die hier auch unter weiteren Bezeichnungen wie „technischer Roman, „wissenschaftlich-technischer Roman“ oder schlicht „Zukunftsroman“ auftritt. Darüber gibt es bereits etliches Material, insbesondere über Autoren und ihre Werke. Zur reinen Science-Fiction kommen wenige Horror-Titel. Weswegen also diese Bestandsaufnahme?Meine Lektüre quer durch die Genres des Leihbuchs brachte mir sehr rasch die Erkenntnis, dass weitaus mehr Titel als bislang angenommen, phantastischen Inhalt transportieren – und sei es nur in einzelnen Elementen. Solche Science-Fiction- und phantastischen Elemente finden sich in zahlreichen Kriminal- und Abenteuerromanen, aber auch – wenngleich nur vereinzelt – in sogenannten Frauenromanen, vorzugsweise Arztromanen.Ob in diesen Romanen der fünfziger und sechziger Jahre mit Laserpistolen geschossen oder mit atomaren Handfeuerwaffen geballert wird, ob der Held durch eine neuentwickelte chemische Methode eine für Waffen undurchdringliche Haut erhält oder ob der Kriminalinspektor es gar mit gespenstischen Wesen aus der Anderswelt aufnehmen muss – das alles ist Phantastik; und daher für den engagierten, möglichst auf Vollständigkeit erpichten Sammler von hohem Interesse. Freilich, nicht alles, was großzügig zum Leihbuch gezählt wird, gehört wirklich dazu, auch wenn sich durch eine derartig weite Sicht die Sammlung leicht um nicht wenige Titel aufstocken lässt. Es bedarf daher einer genauen Klärung, was hier unter dem Begriff „Leihbuch“ zu verstehen ist. Das Gebiet exakt eingrenzend lautet die Definition: Leihbücher sind von spezialisierten Verlagen speziell für gewerbliche Leihbüchereien hergestellte Bücher, die zum längeren Verleih außen mit einer Kunststofffolie (sogenanntes Supronyl) beklebt wurden. Dies geschah freilich erst ab etwa 1951/52. Das heißt aber, dass man nolens volens alle Titel, die vor oder in diesen Jahren als Halbleinen- oder gar Leinenbände auf den Markt kamen, als „Quasi-Leihbücher“ dazuzählen muss.Das heißt aber auch, dass Titel, die nach dieser „Deadline“ für das Sortiment herauskamen, nicht zu den Leihbüchern gezählt werden können. Viele Titel, die freizügig zu den Leihbüchern hinzugezählt werden, sind also nicht als solche zu verstehen. Bücher des Goldmann-Verlages etwa, vom schweizerischen Olten-Verlag oder von Bertelsmann können also nicht zu den Leihbüchern gezählt werden. Wie immer gibt es auch hier Ausnahmen, genau: zwei. Der AWA-Verlag in München veröffentlichte seine Titel großteils in Supronyl (für die Leihbüchereien) und in Leinen (fürs Sortiment). Und der Gebrüder-Weiß-Verlag in Berlin hat von vorneherein mit Blick auf die Leihbüchereien publiziert und sein Programm darauf ausgerichtet, um einen gesicherten Absatz zu gewährleisten.Und noch eine Gattung SF und Phantastik kann und darf nicht als Leihbücher vereinnahmt werden: Die Jugendbücher, denn diese fanden keinen Eingang in die gewerblichen Räume der Verleiher und wurden von den Kunden auch nicht dort erwartet. Auch da eine einzige Ausnahme: Die Jugend-SF-Trilogie von W. W. Bröll im Engelbert-Verlag, der als Teil des Leihbuch-Imperiums der Brüder Zimmermann in Balve/Westfalen diese drei Titel mit Supronyl ausstattete. Später wurde darauf verzichtet.Neben dieser Bestandsaufnahme aller mir bekannt gewordenen Leihbuchtitel mit up-Charakter oder zumindest up-Anteilen im Inhalt soll diese Zusammenstellung freilich auch noch etwas anderes bewirken: Bislang wird das Leihbuch nach 1945 als eine zeitliche begrenzte, ziemlich spezielle Erscheinung der deutschen Buchgeschichte zur Kenntnis genommen. Mitte der siebziger Jahre des 20. Jahrhunderts verschwanden die darauf spezialisierten Verlage mangels Nachfrage vom Markt. Und damit hatte es sich. Dachte man wenigstens bislang.Diese Meinung muß in einer bestimmten Richtung relativiert werden. Denn von den „Schwarten auf dickem Papier“ gehen Einflüsse bis in unsere Tage aus.In den 1960/1970er Jahren gab es Nachdrucke in den diversen Heftreihen, vorzugsweise bei Moewig und Pabel, aber auch bei Lehning und Zauberkreis. Autoren wie Clark Darlton, Karl Herbert Scheer, Wolf Detlef Rohr erhielten sogar eigene Taschenbuchreihen – wer hatte das zu Beginn der Leihbuchära auch nur hoffen können? Und sogar ins Hardcover haben es up-Leihbuchtitel geschafft.Moderne...
