Overview: De Vuelta a España, het traditioneel 'kleine zusje' van de Tour en de Giro, is de laatste jaren uitgegroeid tot een immens populaire koers, zowel bij de renners als bij het publiek. Lang was de ronde onderdeel van politieke en maatschappelijke onrust, maar ook toen overwon altijd weer de sport. Zoals in het geval van Julian Berrendero die door dictator Franco in een concentratiekamp werd opgesloten om, direct na zijn vrijlating, tweemaal de Vuelta te winnen. Of toen Jan Janssen de ronde won, op de dag dat het hele peloton lek reed door de honderden kraaienpoten die Baskische separatisten over de weg hadden uitgestrooid.Bijna alle grote coureurs zijn in de Vuelta gestart. Makkelijk hadden ook zij het niet, want Spanje was 'anders', de wegen beroerd en de koers onvoorspelbaar. Dat ontdekten ook Nederlandse renners die vaak verbijsterd terugkeerden, zoals Martinus Valentijn en Gerrit van de Ruit in de eerste editie in 1935.De band tussen de Spaanse ronde en het Nederlandse wielrennen en publiek wordt steeds inniger. In 2020 start de Vuelta in Utrecht, met ook Den Bosch en Breda als etappeplaatsen.

Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. The author did a great job wrapping everything up at the end. No weird plot holes left behind. Glad I picked this up.

Not bad, but not my favorite. It had some good moments, but the overall plot felt a bit disjointed in the second half. Might work better for someone else, just wasn't completely for me.

Not bad, but not my favorite. The writing was fine, but I didn't feel very connected to the characters. They felt a bit flat. Might work better for someone else, just wasn't completely for me.

I liked it for the most part. Writing is good, just wish there was a bit more depth in certain parts. Still kept my attention though. Enjoyable weekend read.
