Overview: De schrijver (1935; voormalig lid van de Tweede Kamer voor de PvdA) geeft in het eerste deel (80 blz.) een literaire verbeelding van het gesprek dat op 3 november 1864 plaatsvond tussen Marx en Bakoenin, de grondleggers van respectievelijk het wetenschappelijk socialisme en het anarchistisch socialisme. In het gesprek wilde Marx Bakoenin overhalen zich aan te sluiten bij de Internationale. Omdat de beschreven gebeurtenissen historische werkelijkheid zijn, maar aangeboden worden als literaire fictie, noemt de schrijver zijn boek een 'gedocumenteerde roman'. Het tweede deel schetst de historische achtergrond achter 'de roman'. Het geeft gebeurtenissen en personen uit de geschiedenis van het socialisme en een confrontatie tussen de leer van Marx en Bakoenin. Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. I loved how the story unfolded. It kept me guessing without being too confusing. Will be looking for more from this author.

I have mixed feelings about this one. The pacing was a bit slow and I found myself skimming a few pages. It wasn't terrible, just okay. Just right down the middle.

Not bad, but not my favorite. It felt a bit repetitive in the middle. Could have been shorter. Might work better for someone else, just wasn't completely for me.
