Overview: Russell Hoban's fiction has been described as unclassifiable. This study attempts to refute this view by adopting a dynamic, "nonlinear" method of classification which is able to deal with the thematic shifts, the formal experiments and the linguistic subversions which characterize the work of this little-known but original contemporary writer. Advocating a pluralistic involvement with texts, Yvonne Studer examines in detail the novels and shorts stories published between 1967 and 1996, among them the children's classic The Mouse and his Child and the novels Turtle Diary>, Riddley Walker, and Fremder.

Yvonne Studer is a writer and avid reader based in the Pacific Northwest. Before pursuing writing full-time, they spent over a decade working in education. Not bad, but not my favorite. It had some good moments, but the overall plot felt a bit disjointed in the second half. It's fine if you have nothing else to read.
