Bu gibi soruların yanıtlarını aramak ve evlerin nasıl oluştuğunu açıklamak bu araştırmanın amacı olmuştur.Araştırmada 19 yy. sonu ve 20 yy. başındaki Safranbolu ele alınmıştır. Çünkü bu evler o evrenin ürünüdür. Çalışma genel olarak Safranbolu evleri üzerine olmakla beraber, Yürük ve Bulak gibi çevre köylerde de tamamlayıcı nitelikte incelemeler yapılmıştır. Evlerin oluşumuna etki eden coğrafi, tarihi koşullar yanı sıra yaşamla ilgili konular da ele alınmıştır, çünkü evlerin yorumunda en önemli etken eski devrin yaşamıdır. Ev tasarımları o devrin yaşama biçimine göredir; ancak o biçimi bilmekle çözümlenebilir. Bu yüzden aile düzeni, günlük hayat, yiyecek üretimi, el işleri, evde kullanılan eşyalar gibi konulara da değinilmiştir. Kültürel antropoloji ve halkbilimi alanlarına giren bu konular yalnız o devrin mimarlığa yansıyan yönleriyle ele alınmıştır. Safranbolu'da yaşama biçiminin ancak çok yakın bir zamanda değişmesi eskiye ait bilgilerin çoğunun elde edilmesini sağlamıştır. Birçok ev terk edilme sonucu harap olmuş ya da değiştirilmiş olduğundan onların eski durumları tasarlanmaya çalışılarak değerlendirilmiştir.Safranbolu evlerinin oluşumunu anlayabilmek için önce bölgenin özellikleri, geçmişi ve yaşamı "Etkenler" başlığı altında incelenmiştir. Sonra "Biçimler" ele alınmıştır. Biçimlerin nasıl oluştuğu "Yöntemler" bölümünde araştırılmıştır. Glad someone recommended this to me. The author did a great job wrapping everything up at the end. No weird plot holes left behind. Worth the time and money.

An average read for me. The pacing was a bit slow and I found myself skimming a few pages. It wasn't terrible, just okay. Probably won't read it again, but it was an okay way to pass the time.
