Overview: Esimene põhjalik eestikeelne poliitika ja valitsemise kõrgkooliõpik. Annab tervikliku ja tänapäevase ülevaate riigiteaduste põhiküsimustest Lääne õpikutes tavaks saanud viisil ja mõisteraamistikus, kujundab emakeelse põhimõistete süsteemi ja sobib nii üliõpilastele kui eneseharimiseks. On algupärane: kirjutatud eesti autorite poolt eesti keeles ja Eesti lugejat arvestades. Õpik on valminud riikliku kõrgkooliõpikute programmi raames Tallinna Ülikooli Riigiteaduste Instituudi kaheksa teadlase ja õppejõu ühistöös. Raamat koosneb 24 peatükist, millest igaüks tegeleb ühe riigiteaduste lõiguga. Peatükid on koondatud kolme ossa. Neist esimene tutvustab üldmõisteid, teine keskendub poliitika ja kolmas valitsemise võtmeteemadele ja kolmas valitsemisele. Esimeses osas on lahti seletatud, millega tegelevad poliitika- ja valitsemisteadused, kuidas suhestuvad riigid ja kodanikud, kuidas toimivad võim, demokraatia ja poliitilised ideoloogiad. Teine osa keskendub poliitikale: kodanikeühiskond, poliitiline osalus, erakonnad ja valimised, poliitiline kultuur ja kommunikatsioon, rahvusriik ning mitmekultuurilisus. Kolmandas osas tutvustatakse valitsemiskorraldust ja poliitikakujundamist tervikuna, samuti avaliku võimu institutsioone täpsemalt; eraldi käsitletakse poliitikat ja valitsemist nii riigist kitsamal kui riigist laiemal tasandil.Lisaks ülikooli põhiõpikuks olemisele on poliitika ja valitsemise alused ka hea käsiraamat üldhariduskoolide õpetajatele, poliitikutele, juhtidele ja poliitikahuvilistele. Vähendatud mahus sobib õpik ka rakenduskõrgkoolidele ning kaugematele erialadele. Õpikut toetab elektrooniline sõnaraamat, sisupeatükkide järel on aruteluküsimused, samuti viited kasulikele internetiallikatele. Läänelikku mõisteraamistikku muudavad lähedasemaks Eesti näited, mis peaks lihtsustama põhiteadmiste kiirendatud omandamist tööalaste või muude vajaduste tõttu. See teeb otstarbekaks õpiku kasutamise ka täiendkoolitusel, sealhulgas ametnike koolitamisel.

Really enjoyed this one. The pacing was spot on and the characters felt real. I didn't find myself getting bored at any point. Will be looking for more from this author.

Not bad, but not my favorite. It had some good moments, but the overall plot felt a bit disjointed in the second half. Might work better for someone else, just wasn't completely for me.
