Overview: This volume contains seven novels, as well as eight short stories, from beloved writer E.M. Delafield, known worldwide by her most famous work: The Diary of a Provincial Lady. This volume is companion of our "Provincial Lady Complete Collection", and contains works from the different eras of the author that allow us to appreciate and understand her evolution. THE WAR WORKERS, THE PELICANS, CONSEQUENCES & TENSION, are four of her six first novels, written between 1918 and 1920, in the aftermath of the First World War. GAY LIFE & GENERAL IMPRESSIONS were written several years later, in 1933, and present a more mature Delafield, just before the Provincial Lady series (started in 1934). In the "Impressions" she already uses the humour and wit that will make her famous around the world. The last work in this volume, LATE AND SOON, is also her final novel, written shortly before her death in 1943. Pretty good overall. The middle dragged a tiny bit, but the ending totally made up for it. Still a good book.
