Manuel Aznar Soler (Valencia, 1951), catedrático de literatura española contemporánea de la Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), es director del Grupo de Estudios del Exilio literario (GEXEL). Especializado en la literatura durante la II República, la guerra civil y el exilio republicano de 1939, ha dedicado hasta la fecha parte de sus trabajos y sus días al escritor exiliado Max Aub. Así, además del libro Max Aub y la vanguardia teatral (escritos sobre teatro, 1928-1938) [1993], ha editado tres obras suyas que cuentan cambien con estudios introductorios y notas: La gallina ciega. Diario español [1995], su tragedia San Juan [1998] y una selección de sus Diarios (1939-1972) [1998]. Asimismo, durante este año 2003 -en que conmemoramos el centenario del nacimiento del escritor- se publicará en la colección Memorias Mexicanas del Consejo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes de México -tras haber aparecido en el ario 2000 el primero (1939-1952) y en el año 2002 el segundo (1953-1966)- el tercer y último tomo de los Diarios (1967-1972) de Max Aub. Y en breve verá la luz en esta misma Biblioteca del Exilio su edición de los Nuevos diarios inéditos (1939-1972) del escritor, un tomo rigurosamente complementario al publicado en 1998 por Alba Editorial. Editor de los volúmenes colectivos Veinte años de teatro y democracia en España (1975-1995) [1996] y El exilio teatral republicano de 1939 [1999], ha preparado ediciones de, entre otros, Rafael Dieste, Juan Gil-Albert, María Teresa León, Juan Rejano o José Sanchis Sinisterra, y estudios y ensayos sobre, por ejemplo, Manuel Azaña, José Bergamín, Juan Chabás, Alvaro Custodio, Paulino Masip, José Ricardo Morales, Antonio Sánchez Barbudo, Adolfo Sánchez Vázquez, Ramón J. Sender, Margarita Xirgu o Valle-Inclán. Ha coordinado diversos números monográficos sobre las literaturas del exilio republicano de 1939 publicados por las revistas Guaraguao [1997], Taifa [1997], Ínsula [1999] y Renacimiento [2000]. En junio de 2003 aparecerá otro número de la revista Ínsula, del que es coordinador y que está dedicado monográficamente a Max Aub. Ha sido co-editor de Literatura y cubran del exilio español de 1939 en Francia [1998] y editor de los dos volúmenes sobre El exilio literario español de 1939, Actas del Primer Congreso Internacional (Bellaterra, 1995) [1998] y de los dos tomos sobre Las literaturas del exilio republicano de 1939. Actas del Segundo Congreso Internacional (Bellaterra, 1999) [2000]. Actualmente es co-director de Laberintos, «anuario de estudios sobre los exilios culturales españoles», cuyo número inicial [2002] es un monográfico dedicado a Max Aub.
