Resta ao militante de esquerda ou aos estudiosos do tema contrapor essa simplificação com uma argumentação que, apesar de calcada na realidade, tornou-se um a evocação da eficácia dos sistemas de saúde e educação gratuitos, que rendem à ilha ótimas posições nos rankings mundiais, a qualidade da pesquisa farmacêutica e a persistência do bloqueio econômico e financeiro imposto ilegalmente pelos Estados Unidos contra o país. Esses dois polos, embora desiguais no método e na orientação política, cristalizam a discussão acerca de Cuba aplainando suas complexidades, o que bloqueia as possibilidades de construção de conhecimento e reflexão. Nosso projeto nasce de uma tentativa engajada de enfrentar esse aplainamento.
