Overview: The world has been cursed into a forty-year-long war because of the selfish actions of its leaders. Children watch their families die, and in turn, are left to be raised by the armies as soldiers. A generation born into this new and brutal world rises without memory of peaceful times. Only the old ones remain to hold the memories and wait eagerly for the arrival of The Peacemakers; the ones prophesied to end the war and go against an evil that has remained at bay for decades.Meet Ada Farmon, a young archer from the snow island Valyra, and her loving sidekick, Lumi, the snow cutter dragon. Ada has never been like the other orphans on Valyra. She does not remain full of hate and instead, she dares to dream of peace. In a leap of faith, Ada leaves behind everything she's ever known to embark on a new adventure of her own to find answers that can only be found far from the snowy borders of Valyra. Along the way, she discovers new friends and the family robbed from her.Meet Phoenix Torwald, a young soldier from the swampy island of Twildor, and his sassy dragon Kaminari, the electrocain. Though Phoenix was raised among the other soldiers, his training didn't start until after his soldier father was killed in battle. Phoenix grew up in a world of hate but decides to break the cycle. On a mission to a neutral island, Phoenix meets Ada, and in her, he finds the first real friend he's ever had. The two escape together to find answers to discover what makes them different.Meet Ares Halstien, a carefree soldier from the volcanic island Bolmsdale, and his level-headed triple fury dragon Bormis. Ares is a dreamer and constantly faces the consequences for it. When he's taken captive by the island, Antara Ares sees it as an opportunity to discover what he's truly made of. When he finds himself surrounded by thieves, assassins, and deserters, he takes charge to lead the odd group of strangers to freedom. Struggling to find his place in his new surroundings, Ares learns the importance of working together and finds friends in people he'd never expected.Meet Mera Halstien, Ares' twin sister, and her gentle souled dragon, Kaida. While Ares is constantly getting himself into trouble, Mera is the opposite and prefers to stay as far away from trouble as she can. She often finds herself scolding Ares for his actions, but she finds herself questioning her ways when he's taken captive and presumed dead. Struggling to move on, Mera finds herself on the prairie island of Chuvandor. After saving a young girl, Mera realizes that outsiders may not be as bad as she always thought. She decides to start over on her own with a group of Chuvandorians and orphaned children.Meet Lyra Vilulf, a young assassin from the forest island Antara, and her fierce nyla dragon Cliff. Lyra, from a young age, has been trained for one thing. Destruction. Lyra is not proud of what she is and longs to be free. When confronted with a choice given to her by a young Bolmsdalian soldier, Lyra abandons her life and joins forces with the prisoners she had helped to round up. Lyra finally allows herself to make her own choices, while also learning the importance of teamwork.Meet Kilic Burz, a young archer from the prairie island Chuvandor, and his invisible arrow wing dragon Kai. Kilic has always done everything in his power to keep his little sister from harm, and when her life is jeopardized, he decides to escape to a new home. He and his newfound friend, Mera, work together to create a safe place for orphans, saving them from a life filled with hate and resentment. I have mixed feelings about this one. The pacing was a bit slow and I found myself skimming a few pages. It wasn't terrible, just okay. Might work better for someone else, just wasn't completely for me.

Took me a few chapters to get into it, but it was worth it. Writing is good, just wish there was a bit more depth in certain parts. Still kept my attention though. Enjoyable weekend read.
