Overview: Bijna iedereen kent Marten Toonder als schrijver en striptekenaar. Zijn rol als filmmaker is tot op heden nauwelijks belicht. En dat is opmerkelijk want Toonder had jarenlang de ambitie om animatiefilms te maken. Het geld dat hij verdiende met de stripverhalen werd jarenlang door hem geïnvesteerd in tekenfilmprojecten. Zo kwamen zijn meest bekende producties De Gouden Vis (1952) en Moonglow (1954) tot stand. Maar deze twee titels zijn slechts het topje van de ijsberg. De Toonder Studio's behoorden jarenlang tot Nederlands grootste filmproductiebedrijven. En naast dergelijke vrije films werden ook nog eens honderden reclamefilmpjes gemaakt.Een hoogtepunt hierin is de Bommelfilm Als je begrijpt wat ik bedoel uit 1983, Nederlands eerste avondvullende tekenfilm. Maar ook de filmproductie tijdens de oorlogsjaren wordt uitgebreid belicht. Hoe zat het nu precies met die eerste Tom Poes-film? Werd die niet gemaakt voor een Duitse opdrachtgever? En waren de studio's werkelijk een onderkomen voor kunstenaars, die anders naar Duitse werkkampen werden gezonden? Good, but not quite perfect. Writing is good, just wish there was a bit more depth in certain parts. Still kept my attention though. Not bad at all.
