Overview: Kokoelma Paavo Haavikon vuosina 1976-1995 julkaistuja proosatekstejä.Barr-nimisen miehen naisasiat ovat yhtä sotkuiset kuin hänen tehtävänsä Helsingissä. Barr-nimisen miehen veroinen tunari Kullervo löytää naiseksi sisarensa, itsensä sekä tappajaksi että tapettavaksi.”Erään opportunistin iltapäivässä" naisen sijan saa politiikka, suhde on yhtä intohimoinen. Teoksen ilmestymisvuonna 1988 vanha ja nyt jo unohdettu poliittinen liturgia hallitsi maata. Haavikon tekstiä se ei hallitse. Tarinassa ”Yritys omaksikuvaksi” Haavikko kirjaa omia elämänvaiheitaan. ”Naismetsän pappi elää vaimonsa ja lopulta hoivaaja-naisensa kanssa nuijasodan aikana Mikkeli pappilassa. Fleurin kevät on täynnä erityistä perheen keskeistä yhteyttä, syksy taas mallikelpoisen surmaajattaren 15-vuotissynttärien aikaa. ”Anastasia ja minä” kertoo keisarin lapsista, jotka jäävät henkiin ja elävät miehenä ja vaimona.Yhdeksännellä kertomuksella on vaiheensa. Ruhtinas Gagarin on kuvannut Suomeen vuonna 1809 tekemäänsä matkaa tekstissään, jonka pohjalta Haavikko kirjoitti vuonna 1954 alun kesken jääneeseen proosateokseensa. Teksti julkaistaan nyt osana pienoisromaania. Sen ensimmäinen jakso on Pääsiäinen ja kolmas jakso Pietari eli Mustasukkaisuuden yö. Uudet jaksot Haavikko on kirjoittanut keväällä 1995 eli 41 vuotta myöhemmin kuin versionsa Gagarin Suomen-retkestä.

I was pleasantly surprised. I got really invested in the main character's journey. Everything just clicked for me. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.
