Overview: New required text for the FAP Modules, as of January 31, 2012 A critical point in an actuary's education is the transition from understanding the mathematical underpinnings of actuarial science to putting them into practice. The problems become less well-defined and the solutions less clear-cut. Understanding Actuarial Practice is designed to aid that transition in four of the areas in which actuaries investments, life insurance and annuities, retirement benefits, and health insurance. In each area students are introduced to the products that are delivered in each area and the relevant methods with regard to pricing, reserving and funding. I was pleasantly surprised. The pacing was spot on and the characters felt real. I didn't find myself getting bored at any point. Will be looking for more from this author.

Took me a few chapters to get into it, but it was worth it. It held my attention, even if a few things were a little predictable. A solid 4 stars from me.

Really enjoyed this one. The writing style is very engaging. It’s easy to follow but still has a lot of depth. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.
