Overview: Originally published in 1912, this Bogie Book features the following ideas and suggestions for planning and decorating for vintage Halloween the "summons" -- invitation design and wording suggestions; making doorway portieres (crepe paper curtains to hang in doorways); covering your home's artwork with halloween-themed handmade artwork using crepe paper; decorating ideas to make including box lanterns, imitation moss, wasps nests, witch's brooms, owls, corn stalks, etc.; creative ideas for choosing supper partners amongst your guests; multiple table layout ideas; suggestions for party food; a Jack Horner made to look like a load of hay being confiscated by "brownies" (tiny elves), but actually contains little gifts for party guests; detailed games such as length of life, hitting your mark, choosing your future, independence, witch craft, ghost story, etc.; many ideas for homemade favors including masks to wear, fans, pig grunt noise maker, snakes, devil heads, pumpkin face with rolling eyes, decorated card cases, etc.; a spooky vintage ghost story; and much more. This book also includes all of the original price lists for the Dennison stock goods (crepe paper, festoons, streamers, garlands, hats, napkins, dinner favors, doilies, gummed silhouettes, lunch sets, etc) -- perfect for the collector of vintage Dennison ephemera. The Dennison Bogie books featured amazingly creative displays of festooned crepe swags and garland, hanging decorations depicting witches, ghosts, scary pumpkins, black cats and other symbols we associate with Halloween as well as a vast array of games and favors. The Bogie Books were a great source for party planning, each year showing different ideas to match the new products being released by Dennison. A very satisfying read. The pacing was spot on and the characters felt real. I didn't find myself getting bored at any point. Would probably read it again at some point.
