Overview: इस पुस्तक में आत्मज्ञान की शिक्षा है | "मैं क्या हूँ ?" इस प्रशन का उत्तर शब्दों द्वारा नहीं, वरन साधना द्वारा ह्रदयंगम करने का प्रयत्न इस पुस्तक में किया गया है | यह पुस्तकअध्यात्म मार्ग के पथिकों का उपयोगी पथ प्रदर्शन करेगी, ऐसी हमें आशा है | किसी व्यक्ति से पूछा जाये कि आप कौन हैं ? तो वह अपने वर्ण, कुल, व्यवसाय, पद या सम्प्रदाय का परिचय देगा ! ब्राहमण हूँ, अग्रवाल हूँ, बजाज हूँ, तहसीलदार हूँ, वैष्णव हूँ आदि उत्तर होंगे ! अधिक पूछने पर अपने निवास स्थान, वंश, व्यवसाय आदि का अधिकाधिक विस्तृत परिचय देगा ! ब्राह्मण हूँ, अग्रवाल हूँ, बजाज हूँ, तहसीलदार हूँ, वैष्णव हूँ आदि का अधिकाधिक विस्तृत परिचय देगा ! प्रश्न के उत्तर के लिए ही यह सब वर्णन हो, सो नहीं, उत्तर देने वाला यथार्थ में अपने को वैसा ही मानता है ! शरीर भाव में मनुष्य इतना तल्लीन हो गया है कि अपने आपको वहशरीर ही समझने लगा है !वंश, वर्ण, व्यवसाय या पद शरीर का होता है ! शरीर मनुष्य का एक परिधान है, औजार है, परन्तु भ्रम और अज्ञान के कारण मनुष्य अपने आपको शरीर ही मान बैठता है और शरीर के स्वार्थ तथा अपने स्वार्थ को एक कर लेता है ! इसी गड़बड़ी में जीवन अनेक अशांतियों, चिंताओं और व्यथाओं का घर बन जाता है !मनुष्य शरीर में रहता हैं यह ठीक है, पर यह भी ठीक है कि वह शरीर नहीं है ! जब प्राण निकल जाते हैं, तो शरीर ज्यों-का-त्यों बना रहता है, उसमें से कोई वस्तु घटती नहीं, तो भी वह मृत शरीर बेकाम हो जाता है ! उसे थोड़ी देर रखा रहने दिया जाये, तो लाश सड़ने लगती है, दुर्गन्ध उत्पन्न होती है और कृमि पड़ जाते हैं ! देह वही है, ज्यों की त्यों, पर प्राण निकलते ही उसकी दुर्दशा होने लगती है ! इससे प्रकट है कि मनुष्य शरीर में निवास तो करता है, पर वस्तुतः वह शरीर से भिन्न है ! इस भिन्न सत्ता को आत्मा कहते हैं ! वास्तव में यही मनुष्य है ! मैं क्या हूँ ? इसका सही उत्तर यह है कि, 'मैं आत्मा हूँ !'इस पाठ के मंत्र- मेरी भौतिक वस्तुएँ महान भौतिक तत्व की एक क्षणिक झाँकी हैं !- मेरी मानसिक वस्तुएँ अविच्छिन्न मानस तत्व का एक खंड है !- भौतिक और मानसिक तत्व निर्बाध गति से बह रहे हैं, इसलिए मेरी वस्तुओं का दायरा सीमित नहीं, समस्त ब्रह्मांडों की वस्तुएँ मेरी हैं !- अविनाशी आत्मा परमात्मा का अंश है और अपने विशुद्ध रूप में वह परमात्मा ही है !- मैं विशुद्ध हो गया हूँ, परमात्मा और आत्मा की एकता का अनुभव कर रहा हूँ !- सोअहमस्मि-मैं वह हूँ !
