Overview: Život ruskoga pisca Gajta Gazdanova višestruko su, stvarno i simbolički, obilježila putovanja: prvo je u najranijem djetinjstvu s obitelji otputovao u daleki Sibir, gdje je otac dobio posao. Potom se obitelj nakratko skrasila u Peterburgu da bi zatim uslijedila putovanja, preseljenja i egzil na zapad: Peterburg, pa Minsk, Brjansk, Smolensk, ljeti pak Kavkaz (Gazdanovi su podrijetlom iz Osetije), pa Harkov, Istanbul, Sofija, Pariz, München... Ta premještanja u prostoru neprestano izbijaju iz njegovih tekstova kao mirisi trave, cvijeća i zemlje, kao slike vodom bogatih rijeka, kao sjetna razmišljanja i nemirni snovi da bi naposljetku postala pogled na svijet i prepoznatljiv umjetnički rukopis.Kratki roman Povijest jednog putovanja (Istorija odnogo putešestvija, 1938) putovanje je realizirano umjetničkim postupkom. Djelo se pojavilo nekoliko godina nakon famozne Večeri kod Claire kad su svi očekivali čudo. Međutim, očekivanog čuda nije bilo. Roman je bio nešto drugo. Pred čitatelje je došao smiren tekst, kompozicijski kompaktan i zaokružen, ali eklektičan, sastavljen od niza malih priča. Really enjoyed this one. The pacing was spot on and the characters felt real. I didn't find myself getting bored at any point. A solid 5/5 for me.

It was just alright. The writing was fine, but I didn't feel very connected to the characters. They felt a bit flat. Probably won't read it again, but it was an okay way to pass the time.

Finished it in a couple of days. The writing style is very engaging. It’s easy to follow but still has a lot of depth. Worth the time and money.
