Overview: Het meest volledige boek over fibromyalgie dat in Nederland verschenen is. Fibromyalgie is een chronische aandoening van spieren en bindweefsel en berooft de patiënt van energie en zekerheden en bezorgt vaak veel pijn en beperkingen. Toch hoeft fibromyalgie niet het einde van een gelukkig en zinvol leven te betekenen. In dit boek wordt uitvoerig ingegaan op de achtergronden van de ziekte en vooral op de manier hoe u als patiënt met deze chronische aandoening kunt omgaan. De boodschap van het boek is dat mensen met fibromyalgie het heft in eigen handen moeten zien te houden en hun leven niet door de ziekte moeten laten beheersen.In het eerste deel van het boek wordt stilgestaan bij wat fibromyalgie (niet) is met aandacht voor de belangrijkste klachten, de diagnose en verwante aandoeningen. In het tweede deel komt aan de orde wat de ziekte voor het leven van de patiënten en de omgeving betekent. Daarbij gaat het onder andere om het leren aanvaarden van de ziekte en het in kaart brengen van de pijn en de grenzen tot hoever je nog kunt en wilt gaan. Ook komt aan de orde wat fibromyalgie betekent voor de (intieme) relatie met anderen en hoe daar mee om te gaan. Als u fibromyalgie hebt, moet u uw leven op de een of andere manier managen om zo goed mogelijk het leven te kunnen blijven leiden dat u wilt leiden. In het derde deel van het boek staat beschreven hoe u dat kunt doen en hoe en bij wie u dat kunt leren.Deel vier gaat in op de behandelwijzen om de gevolgen van fibromyalgie de baas te worden voor zover dat mogelijk is. Er wordt ingegaan op de (on)mogelijkheden van de reguliere en alternatieve geneeskunde alsook op de rol van medicijnen.In de bijlagen treft u 84 praktische tips aan waar u in het leven van alledag uw voordeel mee kunt doen. It was just alright. The pacing was a bit slow and I found myself skimming a few pages. It wasn't terrible, just okay. Might work better for someone else, just wasn't completely for me.

Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. The pacing was spot on and the characters felt real. I didn't find myself getting bored at any point. Will be looking for more from this author.
